SPAM Protection & Management

Unsolicited bulk email messages and email-borne computer viruses are perhaps the most annoying aspects of email communication. Clogging Inboxes all over the Internet, Spam is an ever-present nuisance that takes valuable time to sift through in search of your legitimate messages. Viruses can be even more devastating, costing not only precious time in system cleanup or recovery, but also in irrecoverable data loss. In the Information Age where losing time or data is unacceptable, using proper tools as preventative measures can go a long way. We now use SVFilter - one such tool that fits the bill, offering both Spam and Virus Filtration in one package.

To curb Spam, SVFilter employs a specially developed scoring system to accurately distinguish between legitimate messages and those that are Spam. However, there is a learning period associated with the SVFilter upon initial installation. To teach SVFilter what each of you consider Spam, it will be necessary to follow this process:

As much as possible, forward Spam emails to: your user name-SPAM@your domain name.  For example: kim-SPAM@advancinginternetmarketing.com

As SVFilter learns what Spam is, fewer and fewer SPAM emails will come to you.

Spam Filter Reports

When the filter isn’t sure if an email is a friend or Spam, SVFilter temporarily stores questionable emails elsewhere for later retrieval or whitelisting. SVFilter generates and sends a report 4 times a day with a digest of the messages that it intercepts. You will receive this report, which is a list of questionable email headers containing information such as to, from and subject, in your INBOX as coming from “spamfilter”. It is safe to open. Should the SVFilter erroneously intercept a legitimate email, the SVFilter Report gives you the option to retrieve it (use this option if you want to read the email, but you aren’t sure always want to receive email from this source) or whitelist it (use this option if you know this source is friendly and that you always want to receive their messages).

Alternate/Additional Spam Protection – Mailwasher Pro

For those of you who receive many Spam emails a day, the above “forwarding Spam email” process may be cumbersome and may not be an efficient use of your time. For you, we offer Mailwasher Pro – an email management program that works directly with the server to process mail before it even reaches your inbox. With Mailwasher Pro all mail is compared to extensive Spam databases, identifying known Spam from the very beginning. SVFilter Virus Protection

SVFilter's second function is to guard your Inbox against viral attack from infected email attachments. SVFilter automatically updates its virus definitions every 15 minutes, ensuring continuous up-to-date protection against new viruses and variants. Should SVFilter detect a virus-infected attachment on an incoming message, SVFilter removes the attachment from the message rendering it safe for normal delivery.
